It's the entire contract. Toews is a bad contact at 7.5 M x 4 years as an 85. The retention just makes the contract a little bit better. You shouldn't get value just because you're retaining, base it on the contract in front of you. an 85 31 year old that just downgraded -3 is not worth 7.5M. I'm still taking a risk here. It's not my problem that he was signed to such a bad deal to begin with.
The deal is completely fair with an 83 plus two decent prospects for an 85 that's on a bad contract.
